1898-1969Nacido en Los Angeles, estudio Leyes en la Uni versidad del Sur de California. Entra en el cine como script, y un poco mas tarde ya es ayudante de direccion. Contratado por Hal Roach en 1923, durante los seis anos siguientes es creador de gags, supervisor y director, trabajando con Charley Chase y, sobre todo, con la pareja Laurel & Hardy, para la que hizo uno de sus mejores cortos, We Faw Down (1928). Leo McCarey es, sin duda, uno de los grandes del cine americano. Hizo grande la comedia loca de los Marx Brothers con Duck Soup (Sopa de ganso, 1933); hizo grande la “Scrawball Comedy” con Nobleza obliga (Ruggles of Red Gap, 1935), La picara puritana (The Awful Truth, 1937) y Once Upon a Honeymoon (1942); hizo grande, hasta limites casi inaccesibles, el melodrama sentimental con Tu y yo (An Affair to Remember, 1957). Pero,.ay!, no supo hacer grande al western; sin duda, no era lo suyo. Sin embargo, los dos que figuran en su filmografia son dos filmes estupendos, pero tambien son dos westerns casuales, que tienen mas rasgos de otros generos que del que nos ocupa.Belle of the Nineties (No es pecado). 1934. 75 minutos.
